L’arganier est un arbre endémique du sud-ouest marocain qui donne un aspect très particulier à l’espace humain et au paysage de cette région. Grâce à son système racinaire puissant, l’arganier lutte contre l’érosion du sol, jouant ainsi un rôle irremplaçable dans la préservation de la biodiversité. L’arganier présente aussi un grand intérêt économique, car c’est un arbre à usages multiples. Son feuillage et la pulpe du fruit nourrissent le bétail, le bois est utilisé comme combustible et pour la menuiserie, et son fruit est destiné à la fabrication de l’huile d’argan. Enfin, l’arganier possède une forte valeur symbolique auprès de la population amazighe du sud-ouest marocain.

The argan tree is native to south-west Morocco which lends a particular aspect to the lives of the inhabitants and the landscape of this region. Thanks to its strong root system, the argan tree helps prevent soil erosion, thus playing an important role in the preservation of the region’s bio-diversity. The argan tree is also very important for the locale economy as it can be used in many ways. Its leaves and fruit pulp can be used for animal feed, its wood as fuel and for carpentry and its fruit for the manufacturing of argan oil. Lastly, the argan tree has great symbolism for the Amazigh people of the south-west of Morocco.
