Berber Manuscripts in the Maghreb and in European Collections

This collects together the various Acts of the Aix-en-Provence workshops, which were held on the 9th and 10th of August, 2002, on the initiative of the Book Conservation Centre, in the context of the MANUMED programme, and that of the Institute for Research and Study on the Arab and Muslim World (IREMAM).

In these contributions, experts in the Berber world and in ancient manuscripts wonder about the finding, the identifying, the conservation and the distribution of Berber manuscripts in the Maghreb and in European collections, so as to safeguard the fragile manuscripts of Berber culture, sometimes the only tangible evidence of oral traditions which have either disappeared already or area in the process of doing so.

Ce recueil rassemble les Actes des journées d’étude d’Aix-en-Provence qui se sont déroulée les 9 et 10 décembre 2002, à l’initiative du Centre de conservation du livre, dans le cadre du programme MANUMED, et de l’Institut de recherches et d’études sur le monde arabe et musulman (IREMAM).

Dans ces contributions, les spécialistes du monde berbère et de patrimoine manuscrit s’interrogent sur la localisation, l’identification, la conservation et la diffusion des manuscrits berbères au Maghreb et dans les collections européennes, afin de sauvegarder le fragile héritage manuscrit de la culture berbère, parfois seul témoignage tangible de traditions orales disparues ou en voie de disparition.
