Tawargit d imik (un rêve et un peu plus) retrace l’histoire d’un lettré engagé par les habitants amazighophones d’un village marocain. Soucieux de bien remplir les fonctions religieuses d’un lettré villageois, Ssi Brahim Tacenyart décide de prêcher dans la langue de la population. Ayant transgressé la norme imposée, il est confronté à la fois aux réticences de ses collègues et aux réactions violentes des autorités.
Ce roman de Mohammed Akunad expose, au-delà du paysage romanesque, la complexité du marché hiérarchisé des langues au Maroc et en Afrique du nord en général. Il nous révèle aussi le talent de romancier de cet observateur attentif de la société et de ses dysfonctionnements.
En partant de la position cléricale de son personnage principal, Mohammed Akunad tente de comprendre comment la hiérarchisation des positions linguistiques participe, par imposition ou par exclusion, à maîtriser le champ social. (AF)
Mohammed Akunad est né en 1950 ŕ Ihahan, sur la côte atlantique au nord de la ville d'Agadir. Il enseigne actuellement ŕ Agadir. Militant associatif et animateur d'une émission radiophonique ŕ la radio régionale de la ville (tawessna tamazight, la culture amazighe), il écrit également en amazigh. Aprčs la traduction en amazigh de trois contes populaires russes (Vasilisa tafalkayt, Tiddukla, Gar tagwmat), Tawargit d imik est son premier roman.

Tawargit d imik (A Dream and More) tells the story of a well-read man who is employed by the Amazigh-speaking inhabitants of a Moroccan village. As he is anxious to carry out the religious functions of a village sage in a satisfactory manner, Ssi Brahinm Tacenyart decides to preach in the language spoken by the local population. He has consequently to deal with both the reluctance of his colleagues and the violent reaction of the authorities caused by his having overstepped the mark.
Inside the normal layout of a novel, the story told by Mohammed Akunad shows the complex hierarchy of the language market in Morocco and North Africa in general. We are also made aware of the storytelling talent of this attentive observer of society and its dysfunction.
Taking the position of his central character as a member of the clergy as his starting point, Mohammed Akunad tries to understand how the positioning of languages into a hierarchy, either by imposition or by exclusion, helps to control social aspects. (AF-WO)
Mohammed Akunad was born in 1950 in Ihahan, on the Atlantic coast, north of the town of Agadir. He is, at present, a teacher in Agadir. An activist in the association movement and the host of a radio programme on the town’s regional network (Tawessa tamazight, Amazigh Culture), he also writes in Amazigh. He has already translated three Russian folk tales into Amazigh (Vasilisa tafalkayt, Tiddukla, Gar tagwmat), and Tawargit d imik is his first novel.
